The Economy

As a result of poor economic policies created by George Bush and a Republican Congress, America faces a growing economic crisis. Today's headlines of the sub-prime lending scandal, rising credit card debt, a record trade deficit and a low American dollar are the direct result of poorly planned fiscal policies that have put American workers' economic futures at risk.

Without good leadership these problems will not be properly solved. I believe that positive long-term economic growth is possible if the right steps are taken to protect the economic interests of the American family and our middle class, our working families and the family farmer.

I promise, if elected, I will help return America to an era of fiscal responsibility, making sure that the Bush's tax cuts for the wealthy are repealed and that U.S. tax policy favors the average American and not just those at top.

By cutting taxes in a time of war, Bush has done the unthinkable and driven our economy to the brink of disaster. The best thing for Iowa's economy would be to get out of this war as quickly and safely as possible and start investing that money in building our state's infrastructure and doing what Iowa does best.

Iowa's future rests in building on the current biofuels revolution; increasing our manufacturing base and creating a foundation that will turn Iowa into the sustainable agriculture capital of the world.
