Kevin Miskell: A True Progressive

Why I'm Running

The future of America today rests in the hands of the average citizen; we must take back our government and return to the era when our elected officials stood up to protect the freedoms guaranteed in the American Constitution.

I am running for Congress because I want to help create an America where all can share in the prosperity of the American Dream and have equal access to quality education, affordable health care and economic security.

For too long I’ve seen people run for office say one thing to get elected and then abandon those principles once they are in office. Today, America needs leaders who have a track record of working for the good of their neighbors and will keep their word once elected.

For the past twenty-one years I have been active in grassroots politics here in Iowa, fighting to preserve the viability of the family farm, protect the environment, promote sustainable agriculture and expand the rights of all Iowans.

In entering this race I am dedicating myself to representing the values of Middle America, where hard work, integrity and a person’s word are as strong as the land and common sense of community that holds us together.

I believe that every American citizen must have the same opportunities to compete in this country. No longer can our nation afford to be governed by elected officials who fall sway to the pressure of special interests and sacrifice the economic security of our hard-working middle class.

Currently our nation is facing serious economic instability; with the rise of the subprime mortgage crisis, the decline of the American dollar, the growing credit crunch, a health care system in shambles, and the continued outsourcing of our jobs and our manufacturing base, the American Dream is slowly slipping away from the reach of our children.

The current economic crisis is a direct result of poor decisions made by those in Congress and the White House today. Rather than stand up for the wellbeing of our middle class and working men and women, a core of elected officials have instead given in to the ever growing list of demands of corporate lobbyists. In doing so, our leaders have undermined the very nature of our democracy and put us on the road to financial ruin.

America today is at a crossroads and without good leadership our economic and foreign problems will not be properly solved. With the right kind of leaders in place, however, our nation can return to long-term economic growth if the right steps are taken to protect the interests of the American people, our middle class and our working families.

I am running today because I want to help return America to an era of fiscal responsibility, return integrity to public office, and create positive change that leads our nation forward to a brighter future.

Because of my experience and a lifetime in the district spent fighting for the common good of my neighbor, I am the only candidate who can win the Fourth District back for the people of Iowa.

For the past twenty some years I have been fighting for progressive values, I believe it’s time we send somebody to Washington DC who represents the interests of common Iowans, and when elected, I will proudly serve Iowa’s 4th District as a true statesmen for the people and not just another politician.
